Trade name for Cyclosporin. This is an immune suppressant drug used to counter act immune mediated diseases i.e. where the body turns on itself producing anti-bodies to self-proteins.
Excellent drug for Atopy – allergy showing as irritated inflamed skin, ears and feet. Also anal furunculosis – deep seated inflammation around the anus especially in German Shepherd dogs.
Said to be safe in dogs although it can cause kidney trouble in man. Initially it may cause tummy upsets. Care must be taken if used in the face of any malignant cancers.
It is a very useful drug but expensive.
