Stomorgyl is a mixture of two antibiotics Metronidazole and Spiramycin. In our patients it is the licensed product when we want to give Metronidazole which is a very useful antibiotic in bowel and mouth infections. It also exerts an anti-inflammatory effect in the bowel which is extremely useful in the cases of colitis and other inflammatory bowel conditions. Very prolonged use can cause fits but that aside it really is a vital drug in our anti-bacterial armoury. Spiramycin is a useful addition to the anti-bacterial effect of the Metronidazole. It is particularly effective against Toxoplasmosis.
